Strider
Hiryu was created as
a collaboration Capcom and
Moto Kikaku: the first would
develop two seperate games
(Arcade & Famicom) while
the latter produced a manga.
Illustrated by Tatsumi Wada
and written by Tetsuo Shiba,
the manga appeared as a 6-part
serial in the monthly magazine
Comic Computique from May
to October 1988, then released
as a stand-alone manga.
Since then the character has
become a very popular game
hero, and the book's value
just keeps on rising.
226 pages, Japanese. |

A
truly superb MD conversion
from Sega; that was just the
ticket in its day: fast, fun
and surprisingly faithful
to the arcade.
A special mention goes out
to the original box art.

The
X68000 Strider Hiryu
was Capcom's first release
on the format.
It is a cut above the rest,
too: the game is pretty much
arcade-perfect, and even runs
in the same resolution.
Perfect in every way.
Large pastic PC case, 3 x
5" floppies, instruction
manual. |

The
PC Engine version of Strider
Hiryu was first announced
in late 1991 as a Supergrafx
title, along with a SGX port
of Galaxy
Force II (1988). Delayed
for close to 2 years, it was
re-announced as a CD game
and eventually released in
late 1994 on Arcade CD-ROM².
This development chaos caused
it to be a bit edgy on the
technical front, but it more
than gets away with it by
throwing in a superb CD soundtrack,
new animated intros and an
all-new 'Extra' stage.
A very nice version, with
a charm all of its own.
CD case, PCE Arcade CD-ROM²
disc, colour booklet, spine
card. |
