Fantasy Zone (15 June 1986)

Phantasy Star (20 Dec 1987)

The Sega Mark III was the natural successor to the SG-1000. It was a vast hardware improvement on one hand, and a far more viable attempt at competing with Nintendo's Famicom on the other.
In the performance stakes it easily matches Nintendo's effort, but sadly it came too late to make any kind of an impact on Nintendo's stronghold.
The Mark III does play host to some formidable games, yes, but only by Sega. By the time it arrived, Nintendo had not only sucured the services of every major third party developer in Japan, but had also locked them into exclusive contracts that forbode them to develop for any other format.
So there you have it: the Mark III's only problem is that there really aren't that many 4-star games available for it. Sega produced as much as they could, but it realy wasn't anywhere near the massive quantities of titles that were appearing on the Famicom. But still: for what there is, the Mark III is really worth the detour.

After Burner (12 Dec 1987)

The all-inclusive 'Master System' may look familiar to Western audiences: this was the machine that was pitted against the Nintendo NES outside of Japan, where Sega found far more success.
In Japan it was the final incarnation of Sega's 8-Bit hardware. The unit was backward compatible with all software, featured a built-in 'FM Sound' unit (not included in its western release), and a stereo earphone jack.
More info soon, and hopefully more items on sale, too: Sega stuff always seems to sell out immediately!
