Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Outside of Asia, Puyo Puyo was reworked to feature the evil minions of 'Dr. Robotnik' (the Western name of 'Dr. Eggman') the main villain of the Sonic series.
Released worldwide for the Mega Drive, Game Gear and Master System, the game itself remains identical. It's hard to understand why such a cynical cash-in maneuver was green lighted... The new title screen, menus and cut-scenes feel rushed, and they don't really suit the mood. Surely the funds would have been better spent in pushing Compile's perfectly stylish brand and design work through advertising, promotions, tournaments etc.
The end result is that one of the finest puzzle games of all time was spoilt and defaced, while Sonic fans were forced into an irrelevant genre that they may not necessarily enjoy. Nice one Sega USA. |

as a bit rough and unpolished

valuable version that fetches

is your answer: not very well
at all.
