Uchū Seibutsu Flopon-kun
宇宙生物 フロポン君
6 Aug 1994

It's hard to think of anything interesting to say when the subject turns to the 3DO.
But then there's the off-the-wall efforts of ultra-indie developers Warp, a small company who rocketed to stardom following their memorable interactive film D no Shokutaku (1995).
Flopon-kun was Warp's first release on the 3DO - essentially a stylish and perfectly well made puzzle game; a mix between Columns (1990) and Puyo Puyo (1991) with some elements that would later appear in Super Puzzle Fighter II X (1996). The gameplay is very good, and the theme tune is hard to forget.
Despite getting a US release (as 'Trip'd') it didn't get much worldwide exposeure though, since the vast majority of the 3DO user base was composed of deluded tech-freaks with little time for intelligent puzzle games.
In Japan the game proved popular enough to be worthy of a re-release on the PlayStation in 1995, and a pseudo-sequel on 3DO known as Flopon World, a collection of remixes and mini-games.
As 3DO games go this one's really worth a look. The 'Slap the Pervert' sub-game is worth it alone: drill the button to bitch-slap a geeky girl-groping salaryman on a busy commuter train. Brilliant.
