The King of Fighters XIII Original Soundtrack
ザ・キング・オブ・ファイターズXIII オリジナルサウンドトラック

4 Aug 2010 - Released in arcades on the 14th of July, The King of Fighters XIII (2010) bears the massive responsability of re-establishing the credibility of the KOF series after the lacklustre King of Fighters XII (2009).
Despite a few unexpected bugs the game has been doing well so far. The soundtrack is released today, and the home version is currently slated for a September release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Will SNK ever return to their former glory?

Neo Geo Heroes - Ultimate Shooting
ネオジオヒーローズ ~アルティメット シューティング~

29 July 2010 - SNK's arcade shooting game KOF Sky Stage (2010) comes to the PSP complete with all-new game modes, 4 extra characters and different title, since the new characters are not related to the KOF series.
The only problem is that the handheld format is poorly suited to the shooting game genre... The visibility and controls are poor - the game was hard enough in arcade form, let alone on a tiny handheld screen.
Worth a look in anticipation of the upcoming Xbox Live version!

Data East Retro Game Music Collection
データイースト レトロゲームミュージック コレクション

21 July 2010 - The Data East legacy lives on thanks to this commemorative soundtrack compilation from Team Entertainment.
Covers the 3 games of the evolution-themed 'Darwin' series:
Darwin 4078 (1986), Super Real Darwin (1987) and Act-Fancer (1989)
And all 3 chapters of the cult classic 'Fang' series:
Kuuga (1989), Wolf Fang (1991) and Skull Fang (1996)
A second volume based on Irem games is due in September.

BlazBlue - Continuum Shift
ブレイブルー コンティニュアムシフト

1 July 2010 - The home editions of BlazBlue Continuum Shift (2009) are due in today for Xbox 360 and PS3, in both 'Standard' and 'Limited' versions.
This one's really worth a try: as the successor of the Guilty Gear series the game is fast and intricate; and it benefits from a number of clever changes over the original BlazBlue (2008): altered 'Burst' and 'Guard' systems, three new characters (one exclusive to this home edition) and improved online mode.
Don't let the over-the-top anime visuals put you off: a great game lies beneath!

Street Fighter IV / Super Street Fighter IV Official Complete Works
ストリートファイターIV/スーパーストリートファイターIV オフィシャルコンプリートワークス

25 June 2010 - Now that the Street Fighter series is back in the spotlight, Capcom celebrate with a superb A4-size art book featuring every piece of official art from Street Fighter IV (2008) and Super Street Fighter IV (2010), along with concept designs, background & intro movie sketches, and an interview with producer Ono.
A very nice book, that serves as a great tribute to a great game as well as an insight into how much design work goes on behind the scenes.

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match Tougeki Ver.
ザ・キング・オブ・ファイターズ 2002 アンリミテッドマッチ 闘劇ver.

24 June 2010 - With the KOF series fallen on serious hard times after the pisspoor King of Fighters XII (2009) SNK look back to their last great success for salvation, with no less than a second update of KOF2002.
Originally released on PS2, The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match (2009) also appeared in arcade form, with a few minor tweaks to the gameplay. This 'Tougeki Version' is essentially a port of said arcade, released to promote the upcoming KOF2002 event at the 2010 Tougeki tournament.

Rockman Zero Collection
ロックマン ゼロ コレクション

10 June 2010 - The Rockman series just keeps on rockin' with the Nintendo DS compilation Rockman Zero Collection (2010), featuring all 4 of Zero's GBA adventures on one single cartridge.
Each game is as absolute gem - the only problem is that while the GBA versions could also be enjoyed on the GameCube, here you are limited to the DS's tiny screen(s). We recommend the originals, but some might fight solace in the bonus art gallery and option of playing all 4 games in sequence.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
スーパーマリオギャラクシー2

27 May 2010 - Huzzah! Mario returns for another outing on the Wii, in a direct follow-up to the superb Super Mario Galaxy (2007).
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (2010) features a vastly improved game map to explore, improved gravity effects, new power-ups and the return of Yoshi. This is Nintendo at their best - Mario games rarely disappoint, and this clever mix of platforming, puzzle and oddball controls hits the spot quite nicely.
If you enjoyed the original, go for it blindfolded!

Deathsmiles IIX
デススマイルズIIX

27 May 2010 - Cave's Deathsmiles II (2009) comes home to the Xbox 360 in an enhanced 'IIX' version featuring tons of interesting new material: 2 extra stages, 2 new characters, 16:9 screen mode and bonus mini-games.
Just like the original Deathsmiles (2007) this comes highly recommended, not just to the shooting game aficionado but also casual old-timers: this is much closer to the R-Type and Gradius games of yore than the usual Cave fare.
Available in two different editions: 'Standard' and 'First Limited'.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
メタルギア・ソリッド・ピースウォーカー

29 April 2010 - The latest chapter of the Metal Gear series is here, presented as a 'genuine entry' in the series despite being released on a handheld.
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (2010) keeps up the lavish production values and dramatic stealth-based action of the series, and throws in a 4-player wireless mode for good measure. Make no mistake - this is as good as it gets on a 4-inch screen.
Available in 'Standard' and deluxe 'Premium Package' bundled with a PSP unit.

Super Street Fighter IV
スーパーストリートファイターIV

28 Apr 2010 - Capcom's long-awaited Super Street Fighter IV (2010) is here at last! New 'Ultra' moves, 10 extra characters, bonus games and an improved online mode make for a formidable package and a vast improvement over the admittedly disappointing (and now utterly discarded) Street Fighter IV (2008).
It might not be enough to sway the unimpressed, but it's still a very welcome update that irons over the creases, and will hopefully bring more players back into the Street Fighter fold.

Ketsui - Kizuna Jigoku Tachi - Extra
ケツイ ~絆地獄たち~ EXTRA

22 Apr 2010 - Cave's hugely popular Ketsui (2003) finally comes home to a civilised format after a lamentable showing on the Nintendo DS - arguably the most ill-suited platform for a game of this depth and complexity.
As you'd expect, this is a lot more like it: the game is pretty much arcade perfect, complete with additional game modes, horizontal and vertical screen modes, and comes available in 2 different editions: 'Standard' and 'Limited' with bonus soundtrack CD.
